What is tooth jewellery?
Tooth jewellery involves sticking small
accessories onto the teeth. They come in many
different designs and can be in the form of gems,
or gold or silver shapes. They are stuck onto the
teeth using a dental cement, although a dentist
can easily remove them if necessary.

Is tooth jewellery safe?
We recommend you contact a dentist for advice
if you are considering having tooth jewellery. A
dentist has the skills and knowledge needed to
apply the jewellery safely and will be able to
advise you how to care for your teeth afterwards.
It is important to keep to a good oral hygiene
routine at home as you may find you are more
likely to get dental decay if this area is not
kept clean. (www.dentalhealth.org.uk)

How long does it take to fit?
- Fitting takes about 10 to 15 minutes is
completely painless as there is no cutting of the
tooth surface.
- Will teeth go bad?
- I have had
several Health Teachers ring asking me about the
above so I decided to do a bit of a search.
I can find no adverse information relating to
tooth jewellery, however that may mean that no one
has yet published a paper on the subject. In
the meantime it would be sensible to treat such
jewellery the same as an orthodontic fixed
bracket. Children wearing such jewellery may
well avoid brushing the area to prevent dislodging
it. Food left around the jewellery may lead
to decalcification and therefore the area should
be kept clean. (From NHS Community Dental
